I LOVE Melissa Mayhue books. I love the fantasy, the time travel, the strong but human characters. The anticipation of "thinking" you know what comes next, and finding out whether you were right or wrong. Her characters seem 'real', with all their quirkiness, faults, and weaknesses, but want nothing to do but be strong. I can always let my mind drift away, and become part of the story. I also like the fact that most often, there is not the 'very' explicit sex that some books I read have. It's refreshing. I like the fact the women are not a 10, but the men are, but they still have their weaknesses. A VERY enjoyable read, and can't wait to read the next one. I don't know what it is, but Melissa Mayhue writes really good time travel novels. This book has Analise Shaw going back in time to meet Alexander in the 1200 of Scotland. She was engaged to marry in her time and thinks she should go back to our day. Only she can't make the portal work. This makes it possible for Alex to get to know her. Will she go back to her time or stay in the past? Read it and see.
My only complaint with any book written by Melissa Mayhue is that I have to wait too long for the next one 😁 I think I have read every book she has written. I know I have tried. Her stories are always fresh and entertaining and her characters are enjoyable. Annie and Alex are no exception. Time travel stories can be very tricky but she makes them seem believable. If you like to stay engaged from start to finish in a story then you will love this book.
It had been a long time since I have gotten back to one of my favorite genres time-travel romance and what a better way to jump back in than with a Melissa mayhue book. This looks to be a promising new started to a new series. I enjoyed every minute of it!!
Although it's true the plot is formulaic--it is a Highlands romance, after all, the characters are fleshed out and come to life, and the story is light and engaging. There are minimal editing errors and the writing has good continuity and flow, as failures in those areas frustrate and distract me from the success of books. This book and similar ones are my go-to escapes when there's a lot of stress and I need good diversion.
I was so sorry to have the book end. I have read all her books and when coming to the end I always say "this was the best one of all" but 's Mayhue always proves me wrong. If you love Scottish Highland, plus time travel with a castle thrown in this is the book for you....I can hardly wait to the next book.
I absolutely love a good time travel story especially in the Highlands. This was a great start to this series. I enjoyed Analise and Alex's story and how their love grew as time went on and Analise figured out what it was she really wanted with her heart. The storyline was fantastic and so was the character development. Great job and can't wait till the next book comes out in this series.
Love this book and love the author. This is truly a time-travel romance novel. The main character, Annalisse, gets thrown back in time just at the right time to save her from a marriage that she really is not excited about, but one that both families think would be very profitable. The highlander that saves her has more important things on his mind than a lass who tell him she is not a spy, but is from the 21st century. Annalisse make use of her time by figuring out just exactly who she is and what she really wants out of life and learns how to stand up for herself. This book is entertaining from start to finish.
